Australian Business Register
The Australian Business Register (ABR) has been designed to be a comprehensive register of information provided by businesses when they register for an Australian Business Number (ABN).

The ABR was established under s.24 of the A New Tax System (Australian Business Number) Act 1999.

The main objective of the ABR is to make it easier for businesses and all levels of government to interact using a unique identifier.

Australian Securities & Investments Commission
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission enforces and regulates company and financial services laws to protect consumers, investors and creditors.

An independent Australian government body, ASIC has regulated financial markets, securities, futures and corporations since January 1991. From 1998 we became responsible for consumer protection in superannuation, insurance, deposit taking and, from 2002, credit. ASIC works with other financial and law enforcement agencies in Australia and internationally.

Australian Stock Exchange
The Australian Stock Exchange Limited (ASX) was formed in 1987 through the amalgamation of six independent stock exchanges that formerly operated in the state capital cities. Each of those exchanges had a history of share trading dating back to the 19th century.

ASX operates Australia’s primary national stock exchange for equities, derivatives and fixed interest securities. It also provides comprehensive market data and information to a range of users. All these operations are underpinned by comprehensive high-quality information technology systems.

Australian Taxation Office
The Australian Taxation Office website offers information and assistance on all areas of taxation for individuals, businesses and tax and superannuation professionals. It includes information on tax reform, superannuation, TaxPack, eTax, rebates, excise and has an extensive legal database with legal and policy material to aid interpretation of taxation law.

Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) was constituted by Royal Charter in 1928. The ICAA now operates under a Supplemental Royal Charter (amended from time to time) granted by the Governor-General on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II on 23 August 2000.

The ICAA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of eleven Directors, ten being elected by members in each respective region and one by members on the overseas register. Directors and Regional Councillors will be elected for a three year term, with one-third of the positions on the Board and Regional Councils being up for election each year. The President and Deputy President are elected annually by the Board.
